Halloween is almost upon us, and you know that that means - trick or treaters, ever-more zany costumes, and pumpkin lanterns and witch hats everywhere. What's your Halloween costume this year?

While there are tried-and-tested favourites (such as zombies, ghosts, Freddie Krueger, Jason Vorhees or the deceptively-uncomfortable Batman costume that 99 out of 100 people turn up in), there are a few that still have a few originality points left. How about disturbing the force and arriving clad in a Darth Vader costume, complete with glowing light sabre? That ought to spook anyone out, especially if you re-enact the famous "Nooooo!" scene. Positively shocking.

What has always confused me about Halloween costumes is that some of them aren't even scary. Unless you've been a misbehaving streetwalker for a few years, I don't think a pimp costume is really going to strike the fear of God into you, is it? In fact, you'll see a lot of the girls prefering to don a sexy costume on Halloween rather than a spooky one - and while we men might rather enjoy that, it's just not buying into the spirit of the season, is it?

So, if you haven't sorted out your costume idea yet, get yourself down to your local party shop and grab up some garb - and hey, why not try to be original? You'll get a better reaction as the only one dressed as Lucifer the Morning Star than the 57 people who thought it'd be a laugh to come as the mask-wearing hoodlum from Scream.
